92% of Forsyth County voters overwhelmingly approved a measure establishing term limits for members of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners in the November 3 general election.
The measure, authorized through Senate Bill 469, establishes a limit of two consecutive terms for county commissioners. The proposal appeared on the ballot as a local referendum, asking voters whether the act providing the term limits should be approved.
Under the legislation, commissioners who serve two consecutive terms must wait four years after the conclusion of their second term before becoming eligible to run for the Board of Commissioners again. Importantly, any terms served, either fully or partially, before the law takes effect will count toward the limit.
The new requirement is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027. These election results are currently reported as unofficial.
