Forsyth County Voters to Decide on County Commissioner Term Limits

In addition to county commission candidates, Forsyth County voters will have an opportunity this November to decide whether members of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners should be subject to term limits.

The Georgia General Assembly passed Senate Bill 469, legislation that would establish a limit of two consecutive terms for Forsyth County commissioners. The measure was approved by the Governor and will appear as a referendum on the November 3, 2026, ballot.

Under the legislation, a commissioner who has been elected to and served two full terms would be required to wait four years after the conclusion of the second term before becoming eligible to run for the Board of Commissioners again. Terms served, either fully or partially, before the law takes effect would count toward the term limit.

The ballot question will ask:

“Shall the Act be approved which provides a term limit of two consecutive terms upon the members of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners?”

  • A Yes vote would approve the term-limit legislation, while a No vote would reject it. If approved by more than half of the votes cast on the question, the law would take effect January 1, 2027.
